Default What's best for my Ranger?

I know that this is probably a question you've heard a million times but I just have to get some input on it.

How can I make my Ranger stronger then he is?

Information

Level: 20 Ranger/Elementalist
Weapon: Composite Bow

Skills: Volley, kindle arrows, pin down, Shout: "you move like a dwarf", Predator's Pounce, Companionship, Comfort Animal, and Charm Animal

Build:

11 Marksmanship
9 Wilderness
9 Beast Mastery

I feel like my character is very weak so if anybody can find anyway to make him better then please let me know

Thanks

1.- Get Distracting Shot.

2.- Get Expertise. Expertise should be, 90% of the time, the highest attribute in your build.

3.- Drop Beast Mastery and all those skills. Unless you want to be a beast master, in which case go R/P or R/W as a spearchucker or a hammer ranger.

4.- Get D-shot.

5.- Don't use Volley or Barrage with a preparation. Since you're a R/E use a Conjure spell (i.e. Conjure frost, Flame, etc) and a bowstring of the proper type. Spec into the attribute by dropping Wildernes Survival.

6.- Read the sticky Ranger guide.

7.- GET D-SHOT NAO!

Hope you don't have any questions regarding D-shot.

Do you suppose he should get distracting shot?!?!? Also use more lightning reflexes. then you won't have to worry about an physicals.

Ask away about distracting shot. Any ranger in here will be more than happy to sing her praises.

Well its commonly known as the best skill in any game ever. It disables skills for 20 seconds. Has a short recharge. It interupts skills and spells. It's free with expertise. And it should never leave any ranger bar ever. Also monk/rangers have been known to carry it in PvP for its leetness factor. Learn to love it!

Bowstrings are best bought from other players. Shouldn't be more than 500g. If you end up running conjure, drop both of beast mastery and wilderness survival down to 0. Put them in expertise (at least 8+1), and the rest into the element of your choice. If you haven't gotten your 30 extra attribute points yet make sure you get them. I prefer 13 in expertise, just throwing that out there.

Buy bowstrings from other players.

Typically, elemental bowstrings are worth 500g or so.

Though it might take some time of spamming in LA/Kamadan.

I always run with 13 or 14 Expertise. At least when I use a bow. Then just about enough to cover your bow requirement (9-10 for me) (rangers aren't really ment for damage so dealing it shouldn't be your top priority) and the rest in whatever you see that fits. Wilderness Survival, or Fire Magic/Water/Air for that conjure I said earlier, or in Channeling Magic if you're going R/Rt to use with Splinter Weapon, etc.

As for your build, take one or two defensive skills (stances mostly) and a preparation if you're not using Barrage/Volley. I personally like Apply Poison but opinions may differ for PvE use.

What campaign's do you have? That will really affect what type of build you can run.

1) Dont spread ur attributes too much
2) Dont use skills that dont work together (kindle + volley, one or the other isnt usable)
3) Add interupts
4) Use interupts well

Thats all you really need to do well in a pve build. Since u evidently have eotn, choose the most applicable skills to pop in as pve. Pain Inverter, Ebon Battle Standard of Honor, Finish Him are never bad choices.

When running conjure builds, it is generally a better idea to have a specific weapon just to cast conjure so you can have another mod on the attacking weapon, like sundering. You want to maximize your damage potential. Of course, if your too lazy to constantly switch weapons, or get extra weapons, then just stick with one weapon with enchanting on it. Also, take note which enemies you are up against when using conjure, as many enemies in the game are strong against fire.

well. ill just save time and go to the things about the build i think you need to fix instead of praising the good things. immolate on a ranger = bad. isnt affected by expertise as far as i know. leave that skill to the real casters. dodge is alright but it ends on attacking which is bad if youre doing anything but running. i recommend using a different stance. one alot of people end up using is natural stride. and for your attributes dont you still have enough points to add another point to an attribute?

Firstly there are many ways to make the ranger "stronger" there are also a number of misconceptions about them.

First it appears to be set in stone that you have to put lots or points into expertise, while this is true enough for some builds its perfectly possible to do well with no points there at all.
Its all in the build.

Expertise does reduce the cost of skills so is good energy management and is needed if you have a build depending on one shot skills.
If you base the build around preparations lasting 24 seconds or more you are far less energy dependant.

When you come across a bow that's Fiery Icy Lightning or Zealous grab it.
Those bows have the strings you need to boost your ranger.
Use one of the first three combined with Conjure fire cold or lightning to increase the damage of each shot.
You get +5 damage from conjure with no points in the element and up to +17 with max points added.
Put in what you can spare and see how you like it.

The zealous bowstring will give you back 1 energy per shot, when you run a build with points in expertise and a zealous bowstring you can reach perfection as you just keep firing and remain near full energy.

More than happy to drop a few bowstrings your way to start you off just pm me.

Could I also ask how your armour is runed, the attribute figures seem low for an L20 Ranger?

You don't have to put runes or insignia in your armour (we just took a couple of Guildies to Protector of Tyria - to find they had only a couple of runes between them!) but they help a lot.

Only use two Ranger runes - expertise in body armour and then a 'specialism' in your mask and they don't need to be Superiors - then add a vigor plus vitae or attunement runes to the remaining pieces. As to insignia - if you can afford them - a Survivor in your chest piece and leggings then your choice for the rest - don't necessarily use Ranger Insignias but general purpose ones.

The reason for putting your specialism i.e marksmanship, wilderness survival, beast mastery in the mask is you can keep a spare mask and swap as needs dictate.

Keep your health high - it makes you more durable when things get sticky - your bow will still fire on low energy so make it as dangerous as you can, only your skills won't work when energy is down.
